Relationship-Based & Trauma-Informed Practice
Our approach is built around strong, trusting relationships and an understanding of how previous experiences and trauma can influence a young person’s emotions, behaviour and development.
We encourage staff to respond with empathy, patience, curiosity and consistency while maintaining clear and appropriate boundaries. By creating an environment where young people feel safe, listened to and understood, we aim to strengthen their sense of belonging, self-worth and trust in others.
Stability, Security & Positive Futures
We aim to provide young people with the stability, consistency and security they need to thrive.
Working alongside social workers, families and other professionals, we support effective care and placement planning that reflects each young person’s individual circumstances, needs and aspirations.We also help young people develop practical life skills, independence, confidence and resilience, preparing them for their next steps, whether this involves returning to family, moving to another appropriate setting or progressing towards independent living.

We work collaboratively with schools, colleges and other education professionals to promote positive engagement with education and learning. Within the home, young people are encouraged to develop new interests, participate in activities and celebrate their achievements, no matter how small.

What does PACE Stands for
PACE stands for Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity and Empathy. It is a relationship-based approach commonly used when supporting children and young people who may have experienced trauma, disrupted attachments or difficult early-life experiences. PACE focuses on helping children feel safe, understood and valued by responding to their emotions and behaviour with warmth rather than judgement. Through playfulness, adults create positive connections; acceptance helps children feel respected for who they are; curiosity encourages adults to understand what may be behind a child’s behaviour; and empathy shows the child that their feelings are recognised and taken seriously. At Caxton Healthcare, a PACE-informed approach can help build trusting relationships, strengthen emotional wellbeing and create a nurturing environment where young people can develop, build confidence and thrive.
